However, a reactive forehand volley winner at 30-30 for Kerber down 2-4 changed the momentum and Kerber's solid game was too much for the former 2 time champion; 60 unforced errors heavily contributing to Venus' loss. This is the 3rd win Kerber has had over Venus on a 3rd different surface!

Britain's very own, Laura Robson, ranked 89, ended Kim Clijsters career, 76(4) 76(5), recovering from 2-5 down and 3 set points in the 1st set! Kim will now retire, her 22 match win streak at the US Open broken. Laura commanded the game with her forehand and played like a champion under pressure, having seen Clijsters save 3 match points before she finally did it. Good bye Kim! Li Na next!
